Breast Implant Removal

Conveniently located to serve the areas of Algonquin, IL

Breast implant removal is a surgical procedure designed for women who wish to remove their implants due to medical concerns, including breast implant illness, aesthetic preferences, or complications such as capsular contracture or implant rupture. Over time, some women may experience changes in their lifestyle, health, or personal preferences that lead them to reconsider their implants. The procedure can be performed alone or in combination with a breast lift to enhance shape and contour. Removing implants can provide relief from discomfort and potential health concerns, while a breast lift can help restore firmness and youthful positioning.

Benefits

Breast implant removal offers numerous benefits, including alleviation of discomfort, removal of implant-related complications, and a more natural breast appearance. Women experiencing pain, inflammation, or complications such as rupture or leakage may benefit significantly from this procedure. Combining the removal with a breast lift can further enhance the final aesthetic outcome, restoring youthful contours and improving breast symmetry.

Procedure

The breast implant removal procedure involves making incisions, often along the original incision scars, to minimize scarring. The implants are carefully removed, and any surrounding scar tissue is addressed. Implants will be removed with their capsule (total capsulectomy). All the removed breast tissue and implant capsule will be sent to a pathology lab to rule out any malignancy.  If a breast lift is performed simultaneously, excess skin is removed, and the breasts are reshaped for a more youthful appearance. In cases where significant scar tissue has formed, a capsulectomy may be recommended to remove the implant along with the surrounding capsule. The procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia and can take between one to three hours, depending on complexity. After removal, some patients choose fat grafting or other techniques to add volume and maintain natural-looking breast contours.

Recovery and Results

Recovery after breast implant removal varies from patient to patient. Initial swelling, bruising, and discomfort are common but manageable with prescribed pain medication and proper post-operative care. In general, implant removal surgery is less painful than breast augmentation. Patients are advised to wear a supportive bra, avoid heavy lifting, and follow all post-surgical care instructions to promote healing. Most patients can resume light activities within 2-4 weeks, while more strenuous activities should be avoided for at least four to six weeks. Over time, the breasts settle into their natural shape, and the final results become more apparent within a few months. Many women report feeling relief from symptoms associated with their implants, improved comfort, and satisfaction with their new breast appearance.
